Corona Personal Injury Attorney
Riverside County

Most of Corona’s 2023 crash rankings are favorable. Its total of 493 victims placed it 50th in a group of 62 cities that the state ranks from most dangerous to least. One figure stands apart: 7 pedestrians under age 15 were injured, which ranked the city 10th of 62 (OTS). Children on foot face the city’s most serious traffic risk, so a Corona personal injury attorney reviewing those numbers looks first at the streets where children and fast-moving traffic meet.
This guide takes Corona’s corridors in turn: the three freeways, the surface streets named in recent police reports of fatal crashes, and the rail crossing and proposed highway that shape travel through a city of 161,734 (Census).
Corridors covered below: SR-91 · I-15 · SR-71 · South Main Street · Pleasant View Avenue · South Promenade Avenue · Green River Road · River Road at Lincoln · McKinley Street crossing · Cajalco Road
The 91, the 15 and the 71
Three state routes meet in Corona, and the 91 carries Inland Empire residents to and from their jobs in Orange County every day (Wikipedia). Collisions on the freeways are investigated by the California Highway Patrol, not Corona PD. Our sources did not confirm which CHP area office covers each segment through Corona, so check the agency name on the paperwork you received at the scene.
Freeway cases here tend to involve one of three situations:
- Chain-reaction collisions in eastbound evening traffic, in which each insurer blames the car behind its own driver
- Lane-change and merging collisions near the 91/15 interchange, where a witness or dashcam recording often decides the question of fault
- Tractor-trailers bound for Inland Empire warehouses, where the driver’s logs and the carrier’s insurance change the claim considerably (truck accident page)
OTS counted 85 speed-related injury crashes in Corona in 2023, which placed the city 37th of 62. When an insurer disputes how fast its driver was going on the 91, the answer usually lies in the car’s event data recorder and in measurements of crush damage. Both are lost once the car is salvaged, so we send a preservation letter to the tow yard within the first few days.
Fatal crashes reported by Corona police
Corona has no citywide safety plan with a ranked list of streets. The best local record is the series of fatal-collision press releases issued by Corona PD, each describing one crash.
South Main Street, 2600 block
On Jan. 29, 2026, a woman crossing outside a crosswalk was struck and killed (Corona PD). A pedestrian who crossed outside the marked lines can still have a claim. Jurors assign percentages of fault, and the family’s recovery is reduced only by the pedestrian’s share (CACI 405). Headlight range, the placement of streetlights and the speed of the approaching car usually determine how that responsibility is divided.
Pleasant View Avenue, 1400 block
On Sept. 22, 2026, a child in the roadway was struck and killed by an eastbound vehicle (Corona PD). The investigation was recent when this page was written, and we draw no conclusion about fault. It was the second pedestrian death Corona PD reported in 2026, and it is consistent with the city’s high ranking for young pedestrians. Claims on behalf of injured children are discussed on our pedestrian accident page. A parent who has lost a child has a separate claim, which our wrongful death page describes.
South Promenade Avenue, 2100 block
On July 29, 2026, a single vehicle struck a median tree, and the person inside was killed (Corona PD). Single-vehicle crashes can still support a claim. A passenger may recover under the driver’s own policy, and a defect in the vehicle or the roadway may point to another responsible party.
Green River Road
Two motorcyclists were killed here in 2023: one on May 27 in the 4400 block, and another on Sept. 20, when a motorcycle and a pickup collided at West Green River Road and Paseo Grande (Corona PD). State figures for 2023 show 28 motorcyclists killed or injured on Corona roads, ranking the city 33rd. A pickup turning left across a rider’s path, followed by a claim that the rider “came out of nowhere,” is a familiar pattern; our motorcycle accident page discusses how those claims are handled.
River Road at Lincoln Avenue
On July 27, 2023, a hit-and-run began at this intersection. The fleeing driver later crashed into road-closed gates at Rincon Street and North Smith Street and died (Corona PD). When an at-fault driver flees and then dies, the injured person often has no practical source of recovery from that driver, and that is the situation uninsured motorist coverage exists for. That same year, 32 injury crashes in Corona involved a driver who left the scene.
The rail crossing and the proposed freeway
The McKinley Street rail crossing
BNSF freight trains run through the city. On Aug. 10, 2023, a pedestrian was killed by a train in the 100 block of North McKinley Street (Corona PD), and the city is pursuing a grade separation that would carry McKinley traffic over the tracks (City of Corona). Rail cases depend on the railroad’s event recorders, maintenance logs for the crossing gates and federal regulations, and that data must be preserved quickly.
Cajalco Road
A four-lane freeway has been proposed along Cajalco Road to connect I-15 and I-215 (Wikipedia). Large road projects bring work zones, detours and changing lane lines. A crash in a construction zone may involve a contractor or a public agency in addition to a driver, and a claim against a public agency must be presented within six months (Gov. Code §911.2).
City records that can support a claim
| Record | Held by | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Collision report | Corona PD Traffic Bureau, 730 Public Safety Way (Corona PD) | The first document an insurer asks for after a crash on a city street |
| Public Traffic Dashboard and designated truck routes | Corona PD | Shows whether a truck was permitted on the street where the crash occurred |
| Signal timing data | City traffic engineering: more than 140 signals, about half on an Advanced Traffic Management System | Can confirm what a signal displayed at the moment of impact |
| Bus and Dial-A-Ride records | Corona Cruiser, operated by the city (City of Corona) | A crash involving a city vehicle requires a six-month claim |
| Station incidents | Metrolink, at the Corona–North Main and Corona–West stations (Wikipedia) | A separate public agency with its own claims process |
Tip: If a truck was involved, check the city’s designated truck routes before you speak with any adjuster. A truck that was off its permitted route is a fact worth establishing early.
Corona Regional and the Riverside trauma centers
Corona Regional Medical Center is the city’s main acute-care hospital, and Kaiser Permanente also operates in Corona (Wikipedia). The most serious crash injuries are usually taken to one of two Level I trauma centers: Riverside Community Hospital (ABC7) or Riverside University Health System Medical Center in Moreno Valley, which is ACS-verified (RUHS). Records from your first hospital visit connect your injuries to the date of the crash, and an insurer will scrutinize any gap between that visit and your follow-up care.
Wildfire season in the foothills
Corona borders the Cleveland National Forest and the Santa Ana Mountains. The city runs a Ready! Set! Go! wildfire program and publishes Fire Hazard Severity Zone maps (Corona Fire). During an evacuation, many households take the same few roads at the same time. Burns and smoke injuries from a brush fire in the Santa Ana foothills raise a different kind of claim, directed at whoever started the fire (wildfire page).
What parents, commuters and riders ask
Our son was struck near his school. Do children have more time to bring a claim?
Often, yes, for the child’s own lawsuit, but not for every claim. A parent’s claim for the medical bills they paid follows the adult deadline. If the crash involved a school bus or a city vehicle, the six-month government claim rule also applies.
Why did the CHP respond to my crash at the 91/15 interchange?
The Highway Patrol, not Corona PD, has jurisdiction over the interchange and the freeway lanes. Its report is requested through the CHP, a separate process from requesting a city report.
The driver who hit me on Green River Road had only minimum insurance. What other coverage is there?
Your own underinsured motorist coverage, possibly an employer’s policy if the driver was working at the time, and in some cases a claim based on road design or maintenance. We check each of these before giving a Corona client any estimate of value, and a Corona car accident lawyer who skips that step may leave coverage untouched.
Can the Traffic Dashboard prove my case?
Not on its own. The dashboard shows patterns, not what happened in your crash. Signal timing records, video and the police report are what establish that.

Two deadlines, the court and how we help
Two deadlines govern most cases. A lawsuit against a negligent private driver generally must be filed within two years (CCP §335.1), and a claim against the city, Corona Cruiser, Metrolink or another public entity must be presented in writing within six months. If negotiations do not resolve the case, the lawsuit is filed in Riverside County Superior Court. Because the court has been changing where unlimited civil cases are heard, we confirm the correct courthouse against its most recent order at the time of filing.
From Dos Lagos to downtown, Call Jacob (The Law Offices of Jacob Emrani) represents people injured on Corona’s roads and at its rail crossings. For families on Pleasant View Avenue or near the McKinley crossing, we handle wrongful death and child pedestrian claims, beginning with the Corona PD release and the city’s signal records. On each Corona case, we request the Corona PD or CHP report, obtain records from Corona Regional or the trauma center, preserve dashcam, signal and doorbell video, and handle the insurance adjuster so that you are not pressured into a recorded statement.
Insurance and liens: We identify every source of payment early, from the other driver’s liability policy to your own underinsured motorist coverage, and we negotiate hospital liens so they do not consume the settlement.
Meeting with us costs nothing, and you pay nothing unless we win. Clients in Eagle Glen or Sierra del Oro who cannot drive after a crash may ask us to meet them at home or at work. To arrange a free consultation about a Corona injury, call (888) 952-2952; our case evaluator also works from a phone browser, and Spanish speakers will find help at calljacob.com/es.
