Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Involved in Multi-Vehicle Accident

Saturday, January 22 (CNN.com) – A People magazine representative reported that actor and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, 74, was involved in a multi-vehicle crash on Friday, and was not injured. One woman suffered an abrasion on her head and was taken to the hospital, according to the LAPD. The four-vehicle accident occurred at about 4:35 p.m., according to police, at the intersection of West Sunset Boulevard and Allenford Avenue. Law enforcement officials said alcohol or drugs are not suspected to have played a role in the collision.

Schwarzenegger, born in Austria, was elected governor in 2003 as a Republican and was reelected in 2006; he left office in 2011. He was the only person in state history to win a gubernatorial race in a recall election. Since leaving government, he has spoken about the political climate in the U.S., including issues with partisanship and the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Los Angeles Lakers’ Carmelo Anthony Calls Fans’ Taunting in Loss to Sixers ‘Unacceptable’

Friday, January 28 (ESPN.com) – Carmelo Anthony was harassed by a fan during Thursday night’s game at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, where the Los Angeles Lakers took a 105-87 loss to the 76ers. Calling the harassment “unacceptable”, Anthony said the fan referred to him as a “boy” during the confrontation. Referees and players from both teams, along with security personnel, intervened during the incident, which occurred with 7 minutes and 1 second in the fourth quarter. A second fan also taunted Anthony with offensive language. Joel Embiid of the 76ers was at Anthony’s side when the fan tried to escalate the situation.

One fan was ejected, a Sixers spokesperson told ESPN. Further discipline will be handled by the Wells Fargo Center. Anthony said he’d accept any steps to resolve the incident, although it’s “out of his hands.” Lakers guard Russell Westbrook agreed fans might have “crossed the line” during Thursday night’s game (he’s had several run-ins with inappropriate fan behavior, including at Philadelphia in 2016 and 2021). Anthony said the latest incident didn’t line up with his past experiences. Despite enjoying playing in Philadelphia, he expressed how inappropriate the fan’s remarks would be in any setting.
